A splinter organization of the Shiromani Akali Dal, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) is a Sikh Nationalist political party run by Simranjit Singh Mann. Their official electoral emblem is a bucket, or “Balti,” as it is known in Punjabi. On May 1st, 1994, Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) was established. Following the passing of Deep Sidhu and Sidhu Moosewala, who were supporters and viewed as sympathetic to the cause of Khalistan, the party has witnessed a rise in support. After more than two decades, their win in the Lok Sabha in 2022 was seen as a political vacuum brought on by the demise of other established political parties in Punjab and a rise of pro-Khalistan sentiment. Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) last achieved a significant victory in the Lok Sabha elections in 1989.
