Shaheed Bhai Gurdev Singh Kaunke, a true patriot and defender of Sikh principles, was appointed as Jathedar of Akal Takht by the Sarbat Khalsa in 1986. His unwavering dedication to justice and Sikh sovereignty made him a target of the oppressive Indian government. On January 1, 1993, he was brutally tortured and martyred in police custody under fake allegations, symbolizing the state’s ruthless suppression of minorities. His sacrifice remains a reminder of the resilience of the Sikh community in the face of tyranny and the continued fight against state-sponsored oppression and injustice.
